Duties Description
- Maintain a working knowledge of accounting principles and procedures in the development, examination, review and analysis of financial and accounting records including the preparation of reports, statements and reconciliations.
- Provide documentation and reports to assist with audit requests.
- Demonstrate exceptional attention to detail and the ability to effectively prioritize work based on various deadlines.
- Address inquiries from Treasury, bank and agency personnel regarding various accounts.
- Demonstrate strong oral and written communication skills.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of unit policies and procedures.
- Update and maintain various databases.
- Oversight and problem resolution on production of checks and electronic payments.
- Perform other related accounting activities and special projects as required.
- Adhere to the Department’s time and attendance requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS).
For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.
Within a year of permanent appointment, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class examination for which they are qualified.
Non-competitiveMinimum Qualifications Under (NY HELPS) Program Accountant Trainee 1 (Salary Grade 14: $53,764)
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation
- OR a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation OR a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles.
- MQ Substitutions: A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation may substitute for one year of experience.
- A bachelor's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation OR a bachelor's degree with 24 semester credit hours in accounting, auditing, or taxation courses and two years of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles.
Substitution
- A master's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles
