Job summary:

The assistant principal serves as a key member of the school leadership team and supports the principal in advancing the instructional vision, operational effectiveness, and overall success of the school. The assistant principal works collaboratively with staff, students, families, and community partners to ensure a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous learning environment where every student can succeed. This position provides leadership in instructional improvement, student support systems, school culture and climate, and operational management.

The assistant principal helps ensure the effective implementation of district initiatives, promotes continuous improvement, and supports the development of high-performing educators and teams.

Minimum qualifications:

* master's degree in education is required; higher degree is preferred;

* must hold or be eligible for the appropriate georgia leadership certification in the area of educational leadership;

* five years of progressively responsible experience in education as a classroom teacher, counselor, instructional coach or other certified position;

* such alternatives to the above qualifications as the superintendent and the board may find appropriate.

* strong instructional leadership and school improvement skills;

* ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners;

* ability to analyze student achievement data and use results to guide instructional decisions;

* strong decision-making, problem-solving, and organizational skills;

* ability to lead teams, manage projects, and coordinate school initiatives;

* knowledge of restorative practices, pbis, and student support systems;

* ability to effectively supervise, coach, and develop staff;

* strong communication skills, both written and verbal;

* ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment;

* ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.

Performance responsibilities:

Instructional leadership

* assist the principal in designing, implementing, and monitoring high-quality instructional programs aligned with district goals and state standards;

* support teachers through classroom observations, coaching, and feedback to enhance instructional practice;

* analyze assessment data to identify trends and guide instructional planning and intervention;

* promote professional learning that supports innovation, instructional excellence, and student engagement.

School culture and climate

* foster a safe, supportive, and positive school culture where students and staff feel valued and respected;

Lead and model restorative practices, pbis, and social-emotional learning initiatives;

Build partnerships with families and community stakeholders to enhance the school experience.

Operational management

* support daily school operations, including supervision of facilities, transportation, and safety procedures;

* assist in the organization and supervision of student registration, scheduling, and testing programs;

* coordinate student discipline in alignment with district policy, ensuring fairness, consistency, and due process;

* maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with district, state, and federal reporting requirements.

Human capital leadership

* assist in recruiting, mentoring, evaluating, and developing school personnel;

* contribute to building a strong professional learning community focused on collaboration and accountability;

* support and model ethical leadership consistent with the georgia code of ethics for educators.

Other responsibilities

* serve as the acting principal in the absence of the principal;

* represent the principal and school at district meetings, community events, and professional gatherings as assigned;

* perform other duties as assigned by the principal or superintendent.

Physical and work environment requirements

* ability to move throughout the school campus and supervise various school activities;

* ability to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods;

* ability to use technology, including computers and communication devices;

* occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds;

* may require attendance at evening meetings, school events, or community functions;

* requires frequent interaction with students, staff, families, and community partners.
