Job Summary

Albany State University seeks a qualified and experienced physician to serve as the Medical Director for the Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) Program. The Medical Director will collaborate with program leadership and faculty to ensure that the curriculum aligns with current medical practice, promotes interprofessional education, and prepares graduates to provide safe and effective healthcare for physically active populations.

The Medical Director will serve as a key advisor, mentor, and advocate for the program, ensuring compliance with the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) standards and supporting student success.

Responsibilities
  • Provide medical oversight of the MSAT program to ensure alignment contemporary clinical practice and CAATE accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and faculty on the development, review, and continuous improvement of the program curriculum.
  • Support the integration of evidence-based medicine, clinical practice guidelines, and interprofessional collaboration into coursework and clinical experiences.
  • Serve as a liaison between the medical community and the program, fostering clinical partnerships and opportunities for student rotations.
  • Assist in developing policies related to student clinical experiences, patient safety, and scope of practice.
  • Participate in the student and faculty mentoring, offering expertise in clinical decision-making, ethics, and professional practice.
  • Contribute to program assessment and accreditation activities through participation in advisory boards, curriculum review, and evaluation processes.
  • Promote the program and represent Albany State University in the broader medical and athletic training communities.
Required Qualifications
  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree.
  • Current, unrestricted medical license to practice in the state of Georgia.
  • Demonstrated experience in primary care, orthopedics, sports medicine, emergency medicine, or a related specialty with significant exposure to the care of physically active individuals.
  • Commitment to interprofessional education in higher education and health professions.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and collaborative skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior teaching or academic experience in athletic training, medical education, or related health sciences.
  • Experience with CAATE accreditation standards and athletic training program development.
  • Board certification in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Orthopedics, with fellowship training in Sports Medicine preferred.

  • Ability to serve as a liaison between the MSAT program and the medical community to strengthen partnerships and program outcomes.
