JOB SUMMARY

The Fire & Gas Technician provides testing, inspection, maintenance, and repair of various fixed fire suppression/ fire protection systems and is responsible for maintaining portable fire equipment at various North Slope oil & gas facilities. Please see minimum education and experience requirements for eligibility. The position is located on the North Slope of Alaska and requires a rotational work schedule. Relocation assistance to Alaska is not provided;

however, transportation between Anchorage and Kuparuk is provided. Room and meals are provided while in Kuparuk.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Inspect, service, maintain and repair installed fire protection systems (Halon, FE-13, NOVEC 1230, Dry Chemical, CO2, Deluge, Foam, Sprinkler, Standpipes, kitchen hood, and Fine Water Mist).

  • Inspect, service, maintain and repair portable and wheeled fire extinguishers.

  • Record, maintain and evaluate test data.

  • Use and care for tools and equipment employed to testing and maintenance of supported fire suppression systems.

  • The technician is required to work alone and unsupervised at times.

  • Good time management, self-motivation, and a strong safety culture are necessary.

  • Examine work and materials for compliance with job and safety specifications.

  • Attend various components of technical, developmental and safety training.

  • Use hand tools, powered tools, and equipment applicable to Fire and Gas related work.

  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, vendor data, and technical data sheets, etc.

  • Demonstrate general knowledge of NFPA Codes and Standards, the Alaska Administrative Code, Alaska Safety Handbook (ASH), and OSHA standards.

  • Support AES zero-incident safety culture and assume personal accountability and responsibility for safe work practices in all projects, activities, and operations.

  • Other duties will be assigned to this position as needed.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

  • A valid (U.S issued) Driver's License is required.

  • A North Slope Training Cooperative (NSTC) safety training certification is required.

  • A NICET Special Hazards Level II, State of Alaska IIIA, or State of Alaska IIIB fire system permit is required.

  • A NICET Water-Based Test/Inspect Level II, State of Alaska IIA, or State of Alaska IIB fire system permit is required.

  • The ability to work 84 hours a week on a 3x3 rotation is required.

  • At least four (4) years of related training and experience as a Fire & Gas Technician in the Oil and Gas industry is required.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Five (5) or more years of experience working as a Fire & Gas Technician in the Petrochemical or Oil and Gas industry, on the North Slope, and/or in other Arctic environment is preferred.

  • Two (2) or more years of industrial facility maintenance experience is preferred.
