Driller​/Welder - Civil Construction - Kotzebue, AK

Job Description

NANA Construction is hiring for a dependable, safety focused Driller/Welder to support operations in Kotzebue, AK. This position requires strong welding and skills to support barge repair and field maintenance activities, including prep work for structural welding performed in outdoor, industrial environments and in accordance with applicable codes and safety standards. In addition to welding duties, this is a hands on, field based role will also include, drilling test holes in gravel pits, installing potable water distribution systems, waste water collection systems, arctic freeze back foundations, and gravel pads/roads.

This position would function as both skilled labor and driller. The ideal candidate is comfortable working long hours in challenging weather conditions, follows strict safety protocols, and is willing to live and work in remote camp environments.

• Perform general steel preparation and welding work in support of barge repair and field maintenance activities in accordance with applicable codes and safety standards.
• Perform general civil construction labor duties including:
  • Site preparation, cleanup, and material handling.
  • Assisting equipment operators, carpenters, mechanics, and foremen.
  • Shoveling, grading, compacting, and hand-tool work as required.
  • Welding/Insulating HDPE pipe
  • Drilling test holes
• Load, unload, and secure materials safely and properly.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and basic vehicle maintenance.
• Maintain accurate logs, paperwork, and required documentation.
• Perform daily equipment inspections.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized worksite.
• Follow all company safety policies, OSHA standards, DOT regulations, MSHA regulations, and site-specific requirements.
• Work safely in extreme weather and uneven terrain.
• Immediately report all Incidents/Accidents, no matter how small, to their Supervisor.
• Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
• This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Minimum one (1) years experience in civil construction, environmental work, or industrial labor required. At least one of those years must be drilling in a quarry or gravel pit
• Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under company vehicle insurance policy.
• Strong understanding of jobsite safety and hazardous materials handling.
• Ability to lift 50+ lbs and perform physically demanding work.
• Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, and rotational schedules.
• Ability to live and work in remote Alaska locations for extended periods.
