Retail Manager – Icy Strait Point – Hoonah, Alaska
SummaryA Retail Store Manager assists the Director in managing the site’s retail operations, overseeing sales, staff, and inventory.
Responsibilities- Supervise, train and assist employees such as Retail Store Clerks and stockers in customer service, store maintenance, and product knowledge.
- Develop and maintain employee schedules to ensure excellent customer service and sales coverage.
- Coordinate with the Director to establish daily production priorities.
- Maintain proper inventory levels, assist in implementing purchasing plans, and contact suppliers to maximize revenue goals.
- Enter and correct data in the Point of Sale and inventory database.
- Create and maintain point‑of‑sale signage.
- Manage controllable costs while maintaining profitability.
- Ensure the store is always safe, clean, and presentable.
- Assist on the floor as a stocker or in retail sales during breaks as needed.
- Excellent managerial and supervisory skills.
- Extensive knowledge of retail software and operations management.
- Ability to interpret financial data to set goals.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or related leadership experience preferred.
- Five years of related experience required.
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking over 5 miles a day, and climbing stairs multiple times a day.
- Must be able to lift 40 pounds at times.
- Must be able to work safely in a noisy area with many odors present.
- Ability to work in an unheated building.
- Willing to live in a remote, rural community.
- Comfortable traveling by small plane or ferry to and from a remote setting.
- Able to walk and/or drive on gravel roads in inclement weather.
- Ability to obtain certification to drive company forklift (training provided).
- In season, hours can be extended and overnight stocking at times may be required.
- Native‑owned and operated enterprise offering Native Preference under P.O. 93‑638.
