What to Expect (Job Responsibilities)
  • Support land management activities within the University of Wisconsin-Madison Lakeshore Nature Preserve
  • Assist with vegetation management, including invasive species monitoring, mapping, and control
  • Participate in planting and seeding native species and maintaining public gathering spaces
  • Care for and monitor the Preserve’s trails and fire circles
  • Interact positively with Preserve visitors and establish working relationships with staff and volunteers
What is Required (Qualifications)
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain a commercial pesticide applicator license within 6 months
  • Must possess or be willing to obtain first aid/CPR/AED certification within 6 months
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record that meets UW Risk Management standards
  • Ability to perform heavy manual tasks in varying weather conditions
  • Knowledge of ecological restoration principles and land management practices
How to Stand Out (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience with regional native and non-native plant identification and weed control techniques
  • Familiarity with tools and equipment used in land management
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to operate equipment such as brush mowers and utility vehicles
  • Experience in record keeping and report development
