The Sustainability Technician supports Icy Strait Point’s sustainability initiatives across on-site operations and employee housing. This hands‑on role focuses on recycling, composting, waste diversion, education, data tracking, and community engagement. The ideal candidate is environmentally conscious, organized, and enthusiastic about advancing sustainable practices that support environmental, economic, and social responsibility.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Support daily operation of sustainability programs, including recycling, composting, waste diversion, and reuse initiatives
- Collect recycling and compost from employee housing units
- Manage composting programs on-site and within housing areas
- Track and report sustainability metrics, including monthly recycling and compost weights
- Monitor and document wildlife activity as required
- Assist with sustainability projects and initiatives as assigned
- Support the employee thrift store by keeping items organized and accessible
- Create communication materials for sustainability events and volunteer opportunities
- Recruit volunteers and help maintain employee gardens at housing sites
- Contribute innovative ideas to improve ISP’s sustainability practices environmentally, economically, and socially
- Support community partnerships and sustainability-focused events
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Ability to perform hands‑on, physical tasks in both indoor and outdoor environments; ability to work in variable weather conditions; ability to lift, carry, and move materials related to recycling, composting, and sustainability operations.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Previous experience in sustainability, environmental science, or a related field preferred
- Demonstrated interest in environmental stewardship and community engagement
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Comfortable engaging with employees, students, and community members
- Basic recordkeeping and reporting skills
