What you will be doingThis position is part of the Division of Alaska Wildlife Troopers. The Public Safety Technician I (Seasonal) performs technical-level work in the prevention and detection of violations and enforcement of laws and regulations. In addition, the position performs semi-skilled work, frequently in remote field locations, to ensure that mobile facilities and transportation equipment are operational, and assists Troopers with surveillance and patrol duties, evidence handling, and preservation.

Working ConditionsAs a Public Safety Technician I (Seasonal) you will have the opportunity to work in varying outdoor environmental conditions as well as some time spent in an office setting. You will be performing semi-skilled work, frequently in field locations, to ensure that mobile facilities and transportation equipment are operational. You will also help with equipment inventory and perform general clerical duties as needed.
Responsibilities- Set up camp independently in a wilderness situation.
- Use hazardous equipment such as firearms, chainsaws, etc.
- Operate boats more than 24 feet in length.
- Perform general building maintenance, including plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs.
- Spend long periods of time in close quarters while at sea on vessels between 29–156 feet in length.
Public Safety Technician I
Must be eighteen (18) years of age and possess a high school diploma or GED at the time of employment.
Public Safety Technician II (may be filled if higher level experience) – Must meet the Technician I requirements plus:
- Six months of experience performing patrol and surveillance duties and identifying, recording violations, and documenting criminal activity, or equivalent experience as a Public Safety Technician I.
- Six months of field experience involving fish or wildlife management, habitat protection.
- Six months of experience as a commercial fisher; licensed hunting or registered sport fishing guide; or assistant, deckhand, or similar role under a licensed or registered guide.
- Six months of qualifying military experience that involved working outdoors in inclement weather conditions and patrolling and surveillance duties.
- Six months of experience performing semi-skilled duties working in and/or around aircraft, including maintenance and support tasks.

Note:
Must possess a current, valid Alaska driver’s license at time of employment. Job duties require lifting and carrying loads weighing up to 70 pounds over rough or uneven surfaces. A physical examination will be required to determine the ability to meet the physical demands of the job. A background investigation, including a criminal record check, will be made. Positions may require work in remote sites where employees may quarter in bunkhouses, vessels, or tents.
