We are currently seeking a Lead DBA SQL and Cloud to join our team in Remote, Karnataka (IN-KA), India (IN).

Position Overview

The SQL Server Database Admin will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our client applications. This is a “hands‑on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Responsibilities
  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission‑critical production systems.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Database performance tuning.
  • Planning, deploying, maintaining, troubleshooting of high‑availability database environments (Always‑On, Clustering, Mirroring, etc.).
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end‑to‑end.
  • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes, for efficiency and cost optimization.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross‑training to other peers and team members.
  • Work directly with end customer, business stakeholders as well as technical resources.
Must‑Have
  • Leadership:
    • Current or recent experience as a Lead DBA with direct reports (minimum 2 people).
    • Demonstrated responsibility for mentoring, coaching, or leading small DBA/engineering teams.
  • Application‑Focused Engineering:
    • Deep experience with SQL Server performance engineering (beyond troubleshooting).
    • Proven record of refactoring stored procedures, functions, and queries for efficiency.
    • Designing and implementing indexing strategies to support application performance.
    • Partnering with developers to shape efficient database code during design, not just after issues arise.
  • Strategic Technical Direction:
    • Demonstrated ability to guide engineering/architecture decisions in enterprise environments.
    • Experience influencing design of high availability, disaster recovery, and scaling solutions in coordination with app teams.
  • Cloud & Modernization:
    • Hands‑on with Azure SQL (IaaS & PaaS), including performance tier selection, scaling, elastic pools, serverless compute, and failover groups.
    • Active contributor to modernization initiatives, not just patching or migrating legacy systems.
  • Automation & Scripting:
    • Strong proficiency in T‑SQL and Power Shell for automation beyond basic administrative tasks.
  • Time Zone & Availability:
    • Based in U.S. Eastern Time Zone (preferred: New Jersey, Louisville, or Atlanta). – Currently 69% of the DDS SQL staff is in non‑Eastern Time Zone.
    • Available during standard U.S. business hours.
Skills & Qualifications
  • 5+ years of SQL Server Administration experience in an enterprise environment with multiple database servers is required.
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
  • Experience with database administration.
  • Experience with incident and problem queue management.
  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
  • Experience working with Windows server, including Active Directory.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, problem solving skills.
  • Flexible, team player, “get‑it‑done” personality.
  • Ability to work independently, with little or no direct supervision.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to multi‑task and context‑switch effectively between different activities and teams.
  • Strong ITIL foundation, Continual Service Improvement and Total Quality Management experiences.
