Bonuses

New Hire Bonus: $2,000, paid after completion of first 30 days.

Retention Bonus: $2,000, payable in June upon successful completion of the current school year (prorated for part‑time employees).

Job Summary

The special education teacher aide assists the special education resource teacher or speech‑language pathologist (SLP) with classroom duties, providing academic support and overall supervision of students who experience mild to moderate disabilities.

Compensation & Work Hours
  • New Hire Hourly Rate: Grade 5: $20.13 - $22.51 DOE
  • Internal Hourly Rate: Determined by the ESSA Negotiated Agreement
  • Work Hours: 7 hours per day
  • Work Year: 9 months
  • Bargaining Unit: Education Support Staff Association (ESSA)
Job Qualifications/Requirements
  • Must meet at least one of the following:
    • A high school diploma or equivalent, and have completed the Para Professional Assessment, or have the ability to pass the Para Professional Assessment within four (4) months of hire.
    • An associate's degree or higher.
    • Completion of two years of higher education (at least 48 semester hours) or the equivalent.
  • Non‑violent crisis intervention training must be completed within six (6) months of hire.
  • Basic reading and math skills and a basic understanding of learning disabilities are required.
  • Clear and easily understood verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively with children.
