Seasonal Administrative Support Assistant (Office Automation)

This temporary position located rivers at Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve is not to exceed 1,039 hours principles and doesn’t confer competitive status. The typical season spans April through October, subject to weather, project needs, or funding contingencies. Anticipated entry on duty is April.
Responsibilities- Serve as the park’s receptionist, greeting visitors and answering inquiries from employees, partners, and the public.
- Manage correspondence, reports, and records, ensuring accuracy, organization, and compliance with federal standards.
- Perform payroll and time‑keeping functions using automated systems, ensuring accurate and timely submission.
- Compose and prepare a variety of correspondence and documents, ensuring correct format, tone, and grammar.
- Receive, review, and process procurement and supply requests; monitor and replenish stock items.
- Provide general administrative assistance to supervisors and staff, anticipating needs and assembling documentation for park operations.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- Must operate a government (or private) motor vehicle; a valid driver’s license is required and must be obtained within ten days of start date.
- Must obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
- A minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute is required; candidates who do not meet this criterion at closing will receive no further consideration.
Special knowledge or expertise regarding the park’s or preserve’s natural and/or cultural resources and their management is required. Local knowledge of the resources and typical conditions affecting the work will be applied. Applicants must demonstrate periods of time living or working in or near the area of consideration, defined as the State of Alaska from Dixon Entrance to Icy Bay.

Utilizing office software, databases, and automated systems (e.g., payroll, travel, procurement) and maintaining a minimum typing proficiency of 40 wpm. - Resource and Records Management:
Maintaining accurate property, supply, housing, and fleet records and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations. - Organizational Support and Accountability:
Anticipating program needs, assembling reports, and completing administrative tasks that facilitate the organizational mission.
No substitution of education for the required special knowledge or expertise concerning the park’s natural and/or cultural resources and their management.
Additional InformationGovernment housing may be available. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. Physical demands: mostly sedentary for long periods, with walking, crouching, and light lifting.
