$12,562.00 - $15,724.00 per Month

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable. Final Filing Date: 3/11/2026.

Job Description And Duties

This position is eligible to telework up to two (2) days a week, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment.

This position is designated under the Conflict of Interest Code. The appointee is required to complete Form 700 within 30 days of appointment and once per year. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship by the start date of employment. The Department of General Services does not participate in E-Verify for employment authorization purposes.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Supervising Structural Engineer (SupSE) in Codes & Policy unit, this position provides support to both the Structural Safety Design Review (plan review) and Construction Oversight (field) operations. The position is responsible for creating, interpreting and enforcing code to resolve complex issues and promote consistent, innovative solutions to align with the DSA’s oversight of project structural safety and engineering in accordance with DSA policies and procedures, Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations (Title 24), and other governing regulatory requirements.

A Vehicle Home Storage Permit is required for any employee who stores a state vehicle at or in the vicinity of his/her home on a frequent basis as defined by CCR, Title 2, Section 599.808 (d).

Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum Requirements The Minimum Requirements are listed in the Class Specification for DISTRICT STRUCTURAL ENGINEER.

Special Requirements

  • The position requires a valid California Driver’s License (CDL). You must answer the questions addressing your CDL on your application. Provide your CDL number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions.
  • The position requires Medical Clearance prior to being hired.
  • The position requires a Structural Engineer in the State of California Certificate. You will be required to provide a copy of your certificate prior to being hired.
  • Employment History on the STD 678 (State Application) must be complete and include dates, hours per week, total time worked, duties and responsibilities, and contact names and phone numbers of supervisors. Resumes or other documents cannot substitute a state application. Applicants who fail to submit a completed STD 678 may be disqualified.
