Under the general direction of the Office Chief of Encroachment Permits, a Supervising Transportation Engineer, the incumbent serves as the Area Branch Chief/Support Unit Branch Chief for the Office. The incumbent is a representative of the District Permit Engineer and is responsible for planning and directing the work of the branch assigned to provide overall continuity and control for the issuance and administration of encroachment permits.
Minimum RequirementsApplicants must be eligible based on the Senior Transportation Engineer exam. Eligibility may be determined by your score on the Senior Transportation Engineer, Caltrans exam or other criteria such as being on the state examination list, transfer, permissive reinstatement, voluntary demotions, or new to state civil services employment. Applicants are required to submit the required documents including the State Examination/Employment Application (STD 678), Statement of Qualifications, and any evidence of credentials.
Special Requirements- Valid California Professional Engineering License
- Valid driver’s license required when operating a state owned or leased vehicle
- Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is required (no more than two pages, 12‑point Arial font)
- Valid certificate of registration as a civil engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers
- Thorough knowledge of the department’s mission, vision, goals, and values; policies, procedures and standards; federal and state laws, regulations, and concepts; project management concepts; programming processes; budgeting requirements; factors affecting program priorities and resources; and principals and objectives of personnel management.
