JOB DESCRIPTION

TITLE:

LPN/RN Phone Triage Nurse

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Coordinate all patient care activities under the direction of the Triage Manager and Director of Clinical Operations. Receive and triage patient problems and concerns over the phone. Provide medical and nursing advice to the patient as directed by the physicians and nurse practitioners. Deliver quality and compassionate care to all patients

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct job duties in accordance with Heart South policies and procedures.
  • Perform nursing procedures as necessary in department and clinic.
  • Assist physicians and office staff with patient-related calls.
  • Properly document all patient in-person or phone encounters in the EMR.
  • Obtain intravenous access and administer ordered medications to clinic patients.
  • Perform site inspection and suture removal to post-procedure patients.
  • Respond to all patient emergencies within the Heart South clinic and attend patient and/or assist physician, as directed.
  • Properly complete and document medication refills including controlled substances.
  • Inventory, order, and maintain all departmental supplies at defined inventory levels.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Adhere to compliance policies and procedures. Report any incident that appears unusual/deficient to department supervisor/manager or the compliance department.
  • Perform work-related duties, as directed. The job duties and responsibilities of the Registered Nurse-phone triage include, but are not limited to, the previously described areas of duty and responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse with a current Alabama license; BCLS certification.

Experience:

Minimum of three year’s experience in cardiology, CCU, ICU or primary care

The following experience needed or should be completed within one year of employee’s hire date:

* BCLS certification.

Skills:

Good communication skills as well as basic computer and typing skills required.

Physical/Mental Demands:

Varied activities including standing, sitting, walking, stooping, lifting, bending, reaching. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Must be able to use a variety of office equipment including phone, writing instruments, PC, fax, and medical equipment including stethoscope, scales, and blood pressure cuff, etc. Requires working under stressful conditions, working with tense patients, or working irregular hours.
