Log Handling Operator - Westervelt Lumber (Moundville, AL)

Day in the Life
As a Log Handling Operator, you'll play a critical role in the sawmill production process. Your day will include:
- Operating the merchandiser safely and efficiently.
- Keeping the sharp chain infeed deck full to maintain production flow.
- Performing routine maintenance such as lubrication, saw changes, and guide adjustments.
- Calibrating saw modules and monitoring equipment for operational issues.
- Completing daily clean-up in your work area.
- Following lockout procedures and adhering to all safety standards.
- Operate log merchandiser equipment safely and productively.
- Understand operational functions of all equipment in the area.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibrations as needed.
- Identify and communicate operational problems clearly for correction.
- Calculate numbers for manual sets and log lengths.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds and work from elevated positions using safety gear.
- Ability to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and pulling for extended periods.
- Willingness to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, or overtime.
- Strong commitment to safety and excellent attendance record.
- Basic computer skills.
- Experience in lumber or wood products industry and/or manufacturing.
