The Control Room Operator is responsible for monitoring the status of all plant systems continuously, responding to alarms with appropriate corrective actions, and ensuring that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating safely and efficiently. The operator will also monitor activities to ensure the smooth functioning of systems and equipment.
Responsibilities- Operate plant functions from the control room.
- Manage chip feed system, fuel feed system, furnace, dryer system, primary and secondary sizing, and pellet presses.
- Act as the overall contact for plant operations.
- Check indicator screens and signal lights, monitoring production rates and system statuses. Monitor spark detection equipment.
- Adjust production line processes based on signal interpretation. Operate computers, monitors, and correct operational values.
- Maintain working schedules, equipment temperature, and safety standards.
- Assess and adjust according to criticality of potential malfunctions and equipment failures, resolving issues with technical skills.
- Communicate with team members, respond to calls for assistance, and multitask with equipment alarms and radio commands/communication.
- Use strong mathematical aptitude to perform flow, pressure, performance, and meter calculations.
- Work independently and in a team environment.
- Apply knowledge of generating unit operation, engineering, or maintenance practices.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal job instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and written procedures.
- Basic hand‑tool proficiency.
- Basic computer and math skills.
- Ability to learn how to operate HMI touch screens.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in wood products, furnace/dryer operations, or a similar manufacturing environment.
- High attention to detail.
- Ability to work under stressful conditions.
- Prior experience working in a Control Room.
- Work in outdoor environments and occasionally in temperatures above 100 °F and below 32 °F.
- Work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment.
- Adhere to strict safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
- Walk on slippery or uneven surfaces as needed.
- Work shift assignments up to 12 hours, including weekends, nights, or rotating shifts.
- Lift, walk, climb, stoop, stand, push, and/or pull for up to 12 hours a day.
- Work around moving equipment and machinery.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Climb ladders, conveyors, work at heights, and on steel grating.
- Perform essential job functions in accordance with the ADA and applicable federal, state, and local standards.
