Your JobGeorgia‑Pacific is now hiring Sawmill Operators for our Rocky Creek Lumber Mill in Frisco City, Alabama. You will learn to operate lumber production equipment on one or more machine centers, including automated cutting equipment, scanners, bundlers, sorters, and trimmers. This position offers opportunities for advancement as new skills are acquired, and higher starting rates may be available depending on experience. ProductionOperators start at $20.00 and up depending upon experience!
These positions work 12‑hour rotating shifts.
Our TeamThe Rocky Creek facility produces a variety of products from southern yellow pine, including dimension lumber, heavy studs, squares/timbers, and barn timbers. What You Will Do- Adhere to all plant safety and environmental guidelines, policies, and procedures while proactively seeking potential safety hazards.
- Perform housekeeping functions to aid in keeping machinery running smoothly, reducing safety and fire hazards, and maintaining environmental controls and plant appearance.
- Cross‑train on production and mobile equipment to advance knowledge, skills, and compensation toward an operator position.
- Cross‑train on Canter, Edger, Trimmer, Sorter, and Stacker operator roles.
- Work in various areas of the sawmill to help meet or exceed facility and company production and quality goals.
- Collaborate with a team to meet or exceed production and quality goals while keeping waste minimal.
- Perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to 12 hours a day.
- Lift up to 50 lbs.
- Maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, including wearing safety equipment.
- Work in a hot, humid, cold, and noisy industrial environment, including rotating shifts, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
- Minimum of six (6) months of work experience in an industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, farming, carpentry, construction, landscaping, production, logging, or military environment.
- One (1) year of previous manufacturing experience.
- Experience troubleshooting equipment in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in lumber or wood products.
