Duties Help
* Incumbent assists the fire chief with the following: develops long range plans for facilities, manpower, material resources, training programs, and prevention.
* Participates in installation planning by reviewing plans for construction and alterations and providing technical advice on the elimination of fire hazards and the requirements for detection and suppression devices.
* Plans, assigns, directs, and reviews the work accomplished by subordinates in preparation and finalizes annual budget submittal through appropriate channels for the operation and maintenance of the organization.
* Initiates action to fill vacancies, selecting new employees.
* Ensures installation fire department support for mission completion to include: USAAVNC emergency contingency plans, fixed and rotary wing aircraft training, research and test activities, aircraft maintenance and fuel servicing contractors. Requirements Help Conditions of employment
* Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
* May be required to serve a one year supervisory probationary period.
* Must possess State and Government valid driver's license.
* Incumbent is required to successfully complete physical examination.
* Must obtain and maintain Secret background investigation.
* Incumbent is subject to random drug testing.
* Incumbent is required to wear a uniform and safety apparel.
* This is a Mission Essential position.
* Incumbent requires a 120 hours biweekly with one 24 hour work shift each week and is subject to recall.
* Temporary duty (TDY) travel occasional of the time.
* Incumbent is subject to work rotating shift basis in evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
* Must possess and maintain HAZMAT Incident Commander, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, Firefighter III, and Airport Firefighter. Qualifications Who May Apply:

Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes; (1) Management level experience within Fire Protection and Prevention leading, directing and assigning work to Firefighter personnel within a large organization; (2) Extensive experience in directing and managing Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting; (3) Extensive experience in program management; (4) Establishing performance standards. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
In addition to specialized experience, the position requires the incumbent to possess the following certifications:
- Fire Officer III, - Fire Instructor II, - Fire Inspector II, - HAZMAT Incident Commander, - Airport Firefighter. This position has been identified by Department of Army and approved by the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness as a secondary position for special retirement coverage as identified in 5 CFR 831 Subpart I for CSRS Retirement coverage and 5 CFR 842 Subpart H for FERS retirement coverage.
