POSITION SUMMARY

The Middle School Math Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality mathematics instruction aligned to district-adopted curriculum and the Colorado Academic Standards. This position provides instruction in middle school mathematics courses such as Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Applied Math (math intervention), AP Statistics, and other advanced or elective mathematics courses as assigned. The teacher supports the academic, social, emotional, and behavioral development of students by creating a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that promotes mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, critical thinking, and student achievement.

POSITION

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Utilize effective instructional practices to teach district-adopted middle school mathematics curriculum so that students meet grade-level expectations and standards.
  • Provide direct instruction in mathematical concepts including number sense, algebraic reasoning, geometry, measurement, statistics, probability, and problem-solving skills appropriate to grades 6–8.
  • Develop and implement daily lesson plans, instructional materials, and learning activities aligned to learning targets and Colorado Academic Standards.
  • Differentiate and modify instruction to address individual student differences, learning styles, academic readiness, and abilities.
  • Utilize adopted instructional materials and appropriate supplemental resources, media, manipulatives, and instructional technology.
  • Promote mathematical discourse by encouraging students to explain reasoning, justify answers, and engage in collaborative problem-solving.
  • Administer formative and summative assessments to monitor student learning, achievement, and performance, and report results in accordance with district and school procedures.
  • Use assessment data to provide meaningful feedback, adjust instruction, and support continuous student growth.
  • Implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), 504 Plans, and behavior support plans as required.
  • Provide appropriate academic intervention and enrichment to support all learners, including students who are struggling and students who need advanced challenges.
Classroom Environment, Safety & Student Well-Being
  • Establish and maintain an orderly, positive, and inclusive classroom environment free from disruptive behavior.
  • Implement proactive classroom management strategies and enforce the Student Conduct Code consistently.
  • Build positive relationships with students that promote a growth mindset, perseverance, and academic confidence.
  • Supervise students at all times to ensure safety, including during classroom activities, transitions, lunch, recess, field trips, and transportation loading and unloading.
  • Provide safety instruction when classroom activities, materials, or equipment pose potential risk and ensure adherence to safety procedures.
  • Model, promote, and provide instruction in character education, including citizenship, respect for self and others, responsible behavior, conflict resolution, and positive work habits.
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law.
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams, math department colleagues, special education staff, support personnel, and administrators to improve student learning outcomes.
  • Participate actively in team, building, and district meetings and professional learning opportunities.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents/guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and academic needs.
  • Participate in student and family conferences, IEP/504 meetings, MTSS problem-solving meetings, and other meetings as required.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure vertical alignment of math instruction across grades 6–8.
