Position Summary: The Communications Department is seeking a University Student Aid for their Lab Assistant position. The Communication Lab Assistant must have regular posted work hours (25/week) when they are available to help students with the following:
- Check out a camera and other equipment to students for limited times using the software set‑up to document all pertinent check‑in/check‑out information.
- Contact students via email or phone if they have equipment beyond the stated deadline and update Dr. Kate Stewart and Dr. Bobby Mikel with weekly check‑in/check‑out numbers to prevent misuse of the equipment checkout period.
- Be responsible for upkeep of equipment (charging batteries, wrapping cords, etc.) and communicate with Dr. Teddi Joyce, Dr. Kate Stewart, and Dr. Bobby Mikel on the equipment status every week.
- Manage access to our video and audio editing and production suites, ensuring access is fairly allocated.
- Maintain regular hours (the days and duration they will help set); weekend hours are required.
- Post office hours and contact information in Self Hall and communicate clearly and consistently with lab assistants, other students, and faculty members.
- Make access known to students through text and voice calls during assigned hours.
- Provide light/moderate assistance for students in audio/video editing (supplemental assistance, not a graduate assistant or instructor‑level role).
- Ensure security of rooms when leaving by pulling all doors shut and locking them.
- Adhere to all department and university policies and procedures.
Positions may be filled based on individual applicants’ skills, qualifications, and departmental needs.
Duties & Responsibilities:- Check out camera and other equipment to students for limited times using the software set‑up to document all pertinent check‑in/check‑out information.
- Manage access to our video and audio editing suites, ensuring fair allocation of access.
- Assist the audio and video professors with tutoring students on how to record and edit audio and video.
- Ensure security of rooms when you leave by pulling all doors shut and locking them.
- Additional duties as required by the department.
- A major in communication with a concentration in broadcasting or digital media production.
- Successful completion of COM 302 and COM 320.
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Highly proficient with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition Software.
- Applicants must be enrolled as a JSU student taking at least three (3) hours per fall or spring semester.
- If not a first‑time student, the applicant must have a GPA of 2.00 or higher.
- Selected applicants must provide evidence of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or printout of enrollment/GPA from My Jax State ).
- All International Students must be in a valid immigration status.
- Due to Visa requirements, international students must be enrolled as a full‑time Jax State student and possess each of the following:
- Passport from their respective country.
- F-1 Student Visa or J-1 Exchange Student Visa.
- U.S. Customs Form I-94.
- Official photo identification.
- Official Social Security Card imprinted with “Valid for Work Only” or similar statement.

- Unofficial Transcript
