The Communications Department is seeking a University Student Aid for the Lab Assistant position.
Duties & Responsibilities- Check out cameras and other equipment to students for limited times, using the software to document all check‑in/check‑out information.
- Contact students via email or phone if equipment is not returned by the deadline, and update Dr. Kate Stewart and Dr. Bobby Mikel with weekly usage data.
- Maintain equipment, including charging batteries, wrapping cords, and reporting status to Dr. Teddi Joyce, Dr. Kate Stewart, and Dr. Bobby Mikel each week.
- Manage access to the video and audio editing and production suites, ensuring fair allocation among users.
- Maintain regular office hours (days and duration specified), including weekend hours.
- Post office hours and contact information in Self Hall, ensuring clear communication with students and faculty.
- Notify students of access via text and voice calls during assigned hours.
- Provide light or moderate assistance to students in audio/video editing (supportive, not graduate‑assistant level).
- Secure rooms when leaving by shutting and locking all doors.
- Adhere to all department and university policies and procedures.
- A major in Communication with a concentration in broadcasting or digital media production.
- Successful completion of COM 302 and COM 320.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
- Highly proficient with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition.
- Enrollment as a JSU student taking at least three (3) credit hours per fall or spring semester.
- Non‑first‑time students must have a GPA of 2.00 or higher.
- Proof of student enrollment and GPA (unofficial transcript or My Jax State record).
- Valid immigration status is required.
- International students must be enrolled full‑time and possess the following documents:
- Passport
- F‑1 or J‑1 visa
- U.S. Customs Form I‑94
- Official photo
- Social Security Card with “Valid for Work Only” or similar statement
