The OpportunityThe UGDSB is seeking a dynamic individual to join our Educational Assistant team in the capacity of temporary Educational Assistant.
Location: Grand Valley and District Public School
Hours of work / FTE: 1.0 FTE; 32.5 hours per week
Rate of Pay / Salary Range: $30.92 to $36.74 per hour; wage rate effective September 1, 2025
Board Information: 1.0 FTE; 10 months temporary, full-time; ESSP-DECE Union
Reporting to the school Principal, Educational Assistants must possess willingness, along with the physical ability, to work with all students who have diverse needs. This is a 10-month position (September to June) to start as soon as possible with an end date not to exceed June 26, 2026.
Consideration of ApplicationsApplications from UGDSB employees as well as external applicants will be accepted. Applications will be considered in the following order, in accordance with relevant Collective Agreement articles:
- Qualified casual ESSP Bargaining Unit employees
- Qualified external applicants (includes employees from other Bargaining Units)
- Educational Assistants work with students with diverse needs, providing support for behaviour, safety, medical and physical needs. Duties may include lifting, toileting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and application of BMS. Educational Assistants work with students both individually and/or in a group setting.
- Perform other duties as assigned
Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:
- Educational Assistant Diploma, and/or a combination of formal education related to child development or special education and work experience deemed equivalent by the Board
- Post-Secondary Degree in a related field
- A valid Behaviour Management Systems certification is required for this position
- Proven ability and recent experience in working with students with special needs and behavioural disabilities; school-based experience is an asset
- Autism Spectrum Disorder Training
- Lifting/Positioning Training
- Flexibility, patience, empathy and the ability to work closely with students with complex needs, classroom teacher, parents and Administration
- Capability to perform essential physical duties including lifting, positioning and transferring children and equipment and utilizing BMS techniques where required
- Access to reliable transportation to attend specific schools
