Job Summary

Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs facility electrical distribution systems, lighting systems, apparatus, and devices. Basic skills and knowledge of motor controls and logic control systems. Should be familiar with low‑voltage systems, fire systems, and voice and data systems. Also estimates, coordinates, and schedules on‑site construction or maintenance projects. Quality control using guidelines from the National Electrical Code, local codes, safety regulations, and EMCOR standard practices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Installs power‑supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and building equipment.
  • Connects power‑supply wire to machines and building equipment, and connects cables and wires between machine and equipment.
  • Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, motor starters, MCC panels, MCC circuits, variable‑frequency drives, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wires and cables.
  • Works in a 3‑phase 480/277 VAC, 120/208 VAC, and 120/240 VAC environment.
  • Maintains data‑center electrical service for computer equipment.
  • Maintains all electrical distribution systems within the buildings.
  • Replaces faulty electrical components of machines such as relays, switches, motors, and position‑sensing devices.
  • Replaces faulty electronic components such as printed circuit boards.
  • Maintains building lighting, task lighting on furniture systems, parking‑lot lighting, lighting contractors, and emergency lights/exit lights. Handles 120‑volt outlets, photoelectric eyes for exterior building lighting, and lighting contractors controlled by an energy‑management system.
  • Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings.
  • Performs preventative‑maintenance tasking on all electrical utilities and equipment.
  • Attends classes and seminars on electrical components, distribution, and system design to update skills.
  • Maintains accurate and timely paperwork related to essential duties and responsibilities.
  • Maintains, organizes, and controls inventory supplies, tools, and equipment.
  • Clean and organize shop area; maintain inventory of spare parts and material; maintain tools and equipment for maintenance work.
Qualifications
  • Successfully completed an apprenticeship program and ten or more years of related experience and training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Journeyman status. Basic skills for variable‑frequency drives. Must be versed in the use of voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, megometers, and amp probes. Must be able to interpret the data.
  • Three (3) or more years of related experience and training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry; ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume; ability to apply concepts of basic algebra, Ohm’s Law, and geometry.
  • Training and certification to operate a forklift and an aerial lift preferred.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists; ability to interpret common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
