Food and Beverage Operations Assistant Supervisor
Akron Zoo is seeking a dedicated Food and Beverage Operations Assistant Supervisor to support all food service locations, catering, and special events.
ResponsibilitiesThe Food and Beverage Operations Assistant Supervisor (FBOAS) provides direct program and operational support to all Food Service locations throughout the Akron Zoo, including catering and special events.
Leads with strong communication skills, both verbal & written, and devotes at least 75 percent of time to operations during the summer season and special events, working closely with the team to support and train staff as they prepare food and serve guests.
Assists with daily setup and closing of all locations, monitors supplies at stations; ensures inventory is received, verified, and rotated using FIFO; verifies cash drawers; sets up and breaks down events; monitors and educates staff on ways to reduce waste; assists with monthly inventory; and maintains health & safety regulations.
Schedules and learns all areas of the operation, including bartending requiring successful completion of TIPS training. Assists with inspecting and restocking vending inventory and equipment as well as monthly inventory counts of the operation.
During the off-season, works closely with the management team to plan for the upcoming season by updating training materials, deep cleaning locations, and implementing strategies for a successful upcoming season.
Provides administrative support by assisting with approving payroll, tracking and documenting attendance violations, and ensuring training records are up-to-date while upholding food safety standards. Demonstrates systematic organization abilities to ensure all documents and files, both physical and digital, are up-to-date & easily accessible.
Assists with hiring staff throughout the year. Experienced in conflict resolution and able to adjust communication styles to different audiences to address workplace concerns, the FBOAS has the authority to coach and discipline staff when necessary.
Ensures the Food & Beverage Team’s Leadership Goal to cultivate a collaborative environment is upheld. Ensures the Akron Zoo’s goal of providing a positive guest experience is met through the quality of the food served and excellent customer service provided.
Works Sunday – Thursday and is required to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary to support food service operations during special events and facility rentals. Fulfills the role of Guest Chief as needed as part of the Incident Command Team, requiring completion of First-aid/CPR training.
Requirements- Minimum high school diploma or GED. Advanced degree (associate or bachelor) in hospitality management or relevant field preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of customer service experience and 1 year of leadership experience preferred.
- Serv Safe Certification or successful completion within the first year of employment.
