Position SummaryThe Night Shift Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to patients undergoing detoxification during overnight hours. The RN monitors patient stability, administers medications per orders, manages withdrawal symptoms, and ensures patient safety while maintaining accurate clinical documentation. The RN functions under approved medical protocols and collaborates with the on-call provider as needed.
Key Responsibilities Patient Care & MonitoringMonitor patients for withdrawal symptoms using approved tools (e.g.,
CIWA, COWS
)Perform routine and PRN vital signs and clinical assessments
Identify changes in patient condition and intervene appropriately
Ensure patient safety, including fall prevention and crisis response
Administer medications as ordered and per detox protocols
Monitor medication effectiveness and side effects
Maintain accurate medication documentation and counts
Follow all controlled substance handling and storage procedures
Communicate significant clinical changes to the on-call provider per escalation protocols
Participate in shift handoff reports and clinical updates
Collaborate with support staff to maintain a calm, structured overnight environment
Complete timely, accurate nursing documentation in the EMR
Ensure charts meet regulatory, accreditation, and facility standards
Adhere to all state, federal, and facility policies governing detox services
Respond to overnight incidents, emergencies, or patient needs
Support infection control and safety protocols
Maintain professional conduct and patient confidentiality at all times
Night shift (typically 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM or similar)
Weekends, holidays, and rotating schedules as required
Active Ohio Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
Current BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
Ability to work independently during overnight hours
Strong assessment and clinical judgment skills
Experience in detox, addiction medicine, behavioral health, or acute care
Familiarity with CIWA, COWS, and withdrawal management
Experience working in residential or medical detox settings
Calm, professional demeanor in high-acuity situations
Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy
Clear communication with providers and team members
Commitment to patient safety and regulatory compliance
