Position Overview

The Assistant Nurse Manager supports the Nurse Manager in the 24‑hour delivery of patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care on assigned units. This night‑shift role ensures operational effectiveness of the nursing team and contributes to the broader hospital objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise employees by providing direction, coaching, training, development, and performance management to meet company goals and expectations.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager in maintaining operational aspects of the patient care unit in collaboration with support services.
  • Prepare, manage, and adhere to the department budget to maintain expenditure controls.
  • Add value as a key member of management by understanding the business, financials, industry, customers, and strategy.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager in supporting nursing and hospital objectives through philosophy, educational efforts, and research.
  • Other duties as required.
Technical Expertise
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software.
  • Experience with Epic or similar EMR software.
  • Clinical pediatrics experience required; clinical experience in assigned area preferred.
  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal relationships that enhance communication, promote conflict resolution, and facilitate staff development.
Education and Experience
  • Education:

    Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required;
    Master’s degree (MSN) preferred.
  • Certification:
    Registered Nurse licensure required.
  • Current Health Care Provider BLS training from the American Heart Association required.
  • If assigned to general care units, PEARS required.
  • If assigned to critical care units, PALS, ACLS, TNCC, and/or NRP required.
  • If assigned to ED, Surgical Services, Sedation Services, Transitional Care/Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and Transport, within one year of hire required: PALS, ACLS, TNCC, and/or NRP.
  • Years of relevant experience: 5 to 7 years preferred.
  • Years of experience supervising: 3 to 5 years preferred.
