Summer Nurse Tech : Summa NICU

Akron Children's invites you to join our 2026 Summer Nurse Technician Program, a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced registered nurses and gain invaluable skills while caring for pediatric patients. This program fosters immersion in Akron Children's culture and aims to inspire participants to pursue RN positions upon graduation.

The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides specialized, high‑acuity care for premature, critically ill, and medically complex newborns. Patients may require advanced respiratory support, surgical interventions, and continuous monitoring. NICU nurses play a vital role in delivering highly technical care while supporting and educating families during what is often an unexpected and emotionally challenging time.

Commitment:

• Complete general nursing orientation and role‑specific training/classes, which may require full‑time, day‑shift hours.
• Work part‑time to full‑time hours alongside your preceptor, with a minimum commitment of 24 hours/week during the program.
• Work PRN during school semesters and breaks with flexible scheduling options.
• Be immersed in the patient population and diagnoses specific to your practice setting while learning nurse technician roles and responsibilities.

Candidates must apply by March 1st to be considered.

The Nurse Technician provides individualized care for a group of patients and supports patient and family education under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Through our Nurse Technician Program, nursing students gain practical experience under the guidance of registered nurses, fostering immersion in Akron Children's culture and inspiring participants to pursue RN roles upon graduation.

Nursing students entering the final year of an accredited nursing program.

• Education:
  
  Must be enrolled in an accredited baccalaureate or associate registered nursing degree program.
• Certification:
  Current Health Care Provider BLS training from the American Heart Association is required.
• Years of relevant experience:
  Must have completed at least one clinical rotation.
• Years of supervisory experience:
  None.
