Job Summary

This role is responsible for assisting the pharmacist in filling prescriptions, ensuring the security and accuracy of operations, and the delivery of medications to the patient.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide and ensure excellent customer service to all pharmacy customers.
  • Follow all federal, state

    Channel, DEA, pharmacy board regulations, safety guidelinestery, as well as policies and procedures of the pharmacy and Absolute Care.
  • Input prescriptions for new fills and refills accurately per the prescriber’s order: (patient, provider, NDC, dosing, refills, dates, signatures, directions, drug‑drug interactions, drug‑allergy interactions and DAW coding). Prescriptions may be electronic, faxed or hand delivered.
  • Fill prescriptions and deliver them to the pharmacist for review.
  • Check electronic system throughout the day for electronic prescriptions and process promptly.
  • Insurance processing: collect accurate information, deductibles, coinsurance and copayments.
  • Patient billing, AR management, delivery and mail orders, phone call reminders, and mailing statements.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date patient records, demographics, insurance, and allergies.
  • Demonstrate a good working knowledge of the pharmacy management system and practice management system.
  • Utilize dual systems as part of the fill process for the purpose of reconciliation and adherence monitoring.
  • Review all medications within the patient profile at each point of contact or refill request as well as verify appropriate follow‑up appointments with the patient’s provider prior to refilling medications.
  • Assist with unpacking and distributing orders and updating inventory as needed.
  • Notify the pharmacist of inventory issues or the need to order.
  • Communicate patient adherence concerns or psychosocial issues to the appropriate staff members: provider/nurse team, nurse educator, social worker, care manager as appropriate.
  • Responsible for asking all patients if they would like to receive counseling from the pharmacist as well as convey the arrival of patients the pharmacist has marked for counseling.
  • Log errors as they occur to promote quality and system improvements.
  • Advise providers when corrections are required before processing prescriptions.
  • Answer phones and/or return phone calls to patients promptly.

  • Distribute patient adherence information for distribution of healthy rewards.
  • Assist with EMR medication list updates.
  • POS management: ensure all transactions are processed appropriately.

  • Ensure detectives are made monthly per practice guidelines.
  • Responsible for maintaining appropriate logs as designated.
  • Participate in annual or biannual inventory.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2‑3 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Certification or willingness to obtain certification within 1 year of hire.
  • Personal and professional passion to help improve healthcare delivery.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse population.
  • Team and customer service oriented.
Working Conditions

This job operates in a professional office environment. The role routinely uses general office equipment. Employees may wear a special uniform, such as a lab coat or surgical scrubs, protective or safety attire, such as gloves and masks. Exposure to the diseases and infections of patients may occur daily. Work may be shared with other technicians and staff.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to communicate clearly and exchange accurate information constantly.
  • Ability to remain stationary for long periods of time.
  • Constantly crescendo computer, keyboard, copy and fax machine, phone, and other general office equipment.
  • Job may be physically demanding at times.
