The Indirect Tax Analyst plays a key role in ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely execution of all indirect tax obligations across the organization. This position oversees sales and use tax, property tax, business license compliance, and various other indirect tax filings while maintaining strong controls, documentation, and reporting accuracy. The role provides critical research and advisory support by monitoring tax law changes, analyzing taxability, and guiding the business on compliance implications.
Additionally, the analyst partners closely with cross‑functional teams to support audits, maintain tax systems, and drive process improvements that enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
- Manage outsourced compliance for sales/use tax, personal property tax, and business licenses, including data preparation, vendor coordination, filing reviews, and timely payments.
- Prepare, review, and file indirect tax returns across multiple jurisdictions and tax types while maintaining exemption certificates, permits, W‑9s, and a proactive compliance calendar.
- Monitor changes in indirect tax laws, conduct nexus analyses, evaluate product and service taxability, and provide guidance on registration and tax coding.
- Support or manage indirect tax audits by preparing documentation, resolving notices, assisting with appeals or refund claims, and identifying process improvements to reduce audit exposure.
- Collaborate with Finance, IT, AP/AR, and Procurement to ensure accurate tax determination and reporting; maintain tax systems such as SAP and Vertex, and reconcile tax accounts.
- Advise business partners on tax implications of new products, transactions, and system changes while driving process improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and automation in tax operations.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
- 3+ years of experience in indirect tax.
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (SAP, Workday, etc.).
- Strong understanding of sales and use tax for a large manufacturing company.
- Knowledgeable with GST/HST.
- Proficiency with Excel and tax compliance systems (e.g. Vertex, Corptax).
- Strong analytical skills and comfort with large datasets and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills and strong attention to detail.
