The Gas Engineering Technician/Drafter supports gas pipeline projects through records management
, quality assurance
, and AutoCAD drafting
. About 70% of the role focuses on documentation, records, and QA/QC, while 30% involves updating and modifying technical drawings. This is a fully onsite role working closely with experienced engineering technicians through job shadowing and hands‑on training.
- Research field notes, property records, and scanned documentation.
- Access and manage spatial data using the Enbridge GIS (SAMS) system.
- Gather and organize records for project folders and inspection packets.
- Maintain accurate, complete documentation across all project files.
- Prepare and assemble inspection packets for field teams.
- Review checklists and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure compliance with company SOPs and quality standards.
- Update plugging/takedown maps and modify existing pipeline drawings.
- Produce and revise design drawings for transmission, storage, gathering, and distribution systems.
- Support civil drafting needs for pipeline projects.
- Learn and use SAP for project documentation and VCU creation.
- Submit environmental and land requests.
- Create electronic requests for basemaps and pipeline design.
- Maintain accurate data across internal systems.
- Partner with engineering technicians and support staff.
- Assist with project folder preparation and vendor coordination.
- Support constructability reviews and safety considerations.
- Maintain awareness of land and easement documentation requirements.
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required)
- Technical training in drafting or civil engineering (preferred)
- 3+ years of relevant experience (required)
- Experience in gas, utility, or construction industries (required)
- Gas pipeline design experience (strongly preferred)
- AutoCAD drafting and design
- SAP proficiency and advanced Microsoft Excel
- Gas, utility, or construction industry experience
- AutoCAD drafting and design accuracy
- Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office proficiency
- GIS experience (SAMS preferred)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Excellent documentation, QA/QC, and record‑keeping abilities
- Ability to learn through job shadowing and mentorship
- Strong follow‑through and self‑motivation
- Effective communication and teamwork
- Civil or mechanical engineering experience
- Utility or pipeline construction experience
- Drafting school or technical training
- Knowledge of Rights of Way, surveying, or civil construction
- Familiarity with SOPs and land/easement documentation
- Fully onsite in Akron, OH
- Standard business hours, Monday–Friday
- Office‑based with collaboration across engineering and field teams
- Computer‑based work with occasional coordination with field personnel
