Position: Design Draftsman

Location: Akron, Ohio

Job Overview

The Design Draftsman will work onsite five days a week and is required to be a local candidate. This role emphasizes records keeping, quality assurance/quality control, and organizational skills, with less focus on AutoCAD experience (approximately 30% of the time). The contractor will assist engineering technicians, create inspection packets, review checklists, and assemble folders for the inspection team. They will also learn SAP, create VCUs for various transmission, storage, and distribution projects, and conduct records research using field notes, property records, and digital systems.

Additionally, the contractor will help create electronic requests for basemaps and pipeline designs and update company documents using AutoCAD.

Responsibilities
  • Assist engineering technicians with inspection packets and checklists.
  • Print and assemble folders required for the inspection team.
  • Learn and utilize SAP for creating VCUs for various projects.
  • Conduct records research, including field notes, property records, and GIS systems.
  • Create electronic requests for basemaps and pipeline designs.
  • Update company documents using AutoCAD, including plugging/takedown maps and pipeline designs.
  • Submit online requests for environmental and land documentation.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience; 5 years preferred.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD drafting/design.
  • Experience with SAP, Microsoft tools, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of gas, utility, and construction industries.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Nice‑to‑have skills include gas pipeline design, utility knowledge, civil drafting/design, surveying background, and civil/roadway construction experience.
  • Understanding of GIS systems, safety, constructability of pipelines, and land/easement documentation.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to job shadow, learn from the workforce, and retain information.
  • Self‑motivated with strong follow‑through capabilities.
Pay Range

Pay Range: $25–27/hr w2

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by several factors, including the scope, complexity, and location of the role, as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials, and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
