The purpose of this position is to develop and support all technical activities related to compounding process engineering of Engineered Polymer Compounds and PP Compounds for Lyondell Basell’s North American Advanced Polymer Solutions business. The Engineered Plastics Product and Applications Development (PAD) Process Engineer will be responsible for the process development of new and existing products, production scale-up into manufacturing operations, formulation transfers between manufacturing locations, and process improvements to increase product quality and/or production rate.
QualificationsEducation
:
Minimum requirement is a Bachelor’s degree in Polymer Science, Material Science, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, or Chemistry.
Experience
:
Entry-level based on education. Preferred 5+ years working with polymers or polymer compound development, including knowledge of polymer processing equipment, methods, auxiliary equipment, and tooling. Experience in Engineered Plastics such as Styrenics (ABS, ASA), Nylon, Polyesters, Polycarbonate, PBT, Polymer Alloys, TPE/TPV materials, PP Compounds. Knowledge of additives like fillers, impact modifiers, stabilizers, etc., is preferred.
Knowledge of properties, characteristics, and processing behavior of polymeric materials and formulations.
Responsible for comprehensive process support from formulation to manufacturing.
Key skills include
:
Ability to relate fundamental polymer concepts to resolve manufacturing and application issues, and competence in engineering principles like energy calculations, heat balance, residence time, and process extrapolation.
Job Responsibilities
- Polymer formulation, blending, and compounding processes
- Extrusion and injection molding of polymers
- Basic understanding of polymer additives, reinforcements, impact modifiers, stabilization
- Basic computer skills, MS Office, statistics, and DOE knowledge
- Problem-solving skills, teamwork, logical reasoning, and demand management
