AboutThe Opportunity
This is an open position with First Energy Service Co., a subsidiary of First Energy Corp. The selected candidate may be offered a position within the same job family, at a level that is lower than what was posted, based on interview results. The position is on‑site and can be in Akron, OH, Greensburg, or Reading, PA.
Role OverviewThe CIP Compliance team of the NERC compliance group manages compliance with NERC’s Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards. Responsibilities include providing oversight of FE Business Units compliance, preparing for and coordinating NERC and Reliability First audits, completing self‑certifications, responding to data submittals, monitoring new or revised reliability standards, and establishing internal controls.
Responsibilities Include- Maintain and revise FE compliance program infrastructure related to NERC CIP standards.
- Verify FE compliance with NERC, Reliability First (RF) CIP standards and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Investigate, document, and submit potential violations to regulatory organizations and ensure timely resolution.
- Coordinate resolving compliance issues and develop improvement recommendations and mitigation plans with responsible FE organizations.
- Utilize FE compliance technology to assign, track and monitor compliance efforts.
- Coordinate FE compliance self‑certification and data submittal activities.
- Prepare and deliver presentations for a variety of audiences.
- Review, revise and ensure technical accuracy of regulatory reports.
- Inform responsible FE organizations of NERC Standards Development activities and communicate FE’s position on proposed regulatory standards.
- Ensure timely adherence to all new or revised NERC and RF regulatory obligations.
- Maintain awareness of emerging utility industry issues through benchmarking and participation in appropriate forums.
- Promote a sense of urgency in the team for reaching goals and meeting deadlines.
- Anticipate customer needs and deliver high‑quality results.
- Prepare for, coordinate, and support compliance audits conducted by internal resources, consultants, or regulatory organizations.
- Conduct or review apparent or root cause analyses related to compliance issues.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Engineering with at least 6 years of professional work experience, or a non‑technical bachelor’s degree with at least 8 years of professional work experience. Relevant experience includes regulatory, auditing, cyber or physical security, or other compliance‑related areas.
- Knowledge of NERC and RF standards and policies is preferred.
- Good written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively within all FE organizations.
- Exceptional teamwork and people skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Deliver quality, accurate work within established deadlines.
- Bachelor’s degree in the same subject areas with at least 8 years of professional work experience, or a non‑technical bachelor’s degree with at least 10 years of professional work experience.
- Experience developing and implementing new or significantly revised programs.
