Position: English Language Learner (ELL) Tutor - Writing Center

The central role of a Writing Center Tutor, English Language Learner (ELL) is to provide academic support for students as they complete writing tasks. Our tutors play an essential role in our student success by helping students learn and understand new concepts and complete assignments. ELL tutors focus on the unique needs of students who are learning English as they complete their academic requirements.

of Work:

Must be available to work at Stark State Akron Campus but there may be opportunities to work on our Main Campus (N. Canton) and online.

Typical Hours of Work:

(varies based upon availability)

The Writing Center takes appointments online and in person 7 days a week from 9am-11pm. In person, the Writing Center is open 9am-5pm Mon-Thu and 10am-4pm on Fridays. Scheduled shifts are dependent on employee availability.

Typical

Responsibilities Include:
  • One-on-one tutoring, group tutoring studio sessions in both in-person and online settings
  • Presentations/orientations
  • Development of supplemental materials
  • Completing tutor reports
  • Reviewing faculty/class files & student files
  • Various administrative tasks
To be Considered You’ll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree in English or a directly related field is required. Master's degree in English or directly field is preferred, although not required.
  • TESOL Certification is preferred.
  • Two years of one-on-one and group tutoring experience preferred.
