Job Purpose

The intervention specialist is responsible for all aspects of Special Education services and compliance, and may provide additional intervention to students not identified for Special Education services as needed. The specialist must be knowledgeable and proactively stay up‑to‑date on all laws pertaining to special education, ensuring that students with disabilities receive the same learning opportunities as non‑disabled students.

Responsibilities
  • Manage students’ day‑to‑day work, including safety, welfare, instruction, and academic and character development.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure IEP goals are taught and IEP provisions are followed.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, IEPs, and other required documentation.
  • Lead the response‑to‑intervention process and effectively communicate with teachers, parents, and administrators.
  • Create and manage a caring, supportive, purposeful, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Prepare instructional lesson plans aligned to state standards and implement the Instructional Framework with fidelity.
  • Teach subjects per the school’s course of study and adapt curriculum using multiple strategies, online tools, and technology.
  • Utilize data and assessments to drive instruction and provide specialized instruction to students with special needs in one‑on‑one, small‑group, or inclusion settings, in accordance with IEPs and SPs.
  • Provide opportunities for students to develop outside the classroom, including student organizations, physical activities, and service learning.
  • Use advanced classroom management techniques, maintain order and discipline, and safeguard students’ health and safety.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development and collaborate with staff to improve student learning and achievement.
  • Perform any other job duties as assigned.

  • Effective organizational skills and the ability to perform multiple tasks.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to support students in achieving academic goals.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and use sound judgment in all aspects of the job.
  • Proficiency in the use of technology.
  • Must complete a BCI/FBI background check and be in compliance with Ohio Administrative Code Rule 3301‑20‑01.
  • Bachelor’s degree required;
    Master’s degree preferred.
  • Current Ohio ODE License as an Intervention Specialist required.
  • Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) status in teaching assignment.
  • Experience preferred: 1–2 years working with students with disabilities; experience with ETRs and IATs and writing IEPs.
  • Candidate MUST hold a Special Education Teaching License in the state of Ohio.
Working Conditions

The job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment but may require dealing with behavioral risks, occasional restraint of students, and attendance at meetings outside regular hours. The role involves stress related to legal compliance, student discipline, and communication with staff, students, and parents.

Physical Requirements

Includes lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, and fine finger dexterity. Reasonable accommodations can be made for qualified employees, as long as there is no undue hardship.

Supervision

Occasional, minimal guidance; follows established work methods.
