Grandview Kids provides an array of specialized programs, rehabilitation services, and outpatient clinical treatments to children and youth with physical, communication, and developmental needs. Programs and services – which are delivered at the Centre, in the community, at schools, and in-home – include: medical consultation, assessment, and diagnosis; audiology, autism support; complex care program; occupational therapy; physiotherapy; respite services; social work;

speech-language pathology; therapeutic recreation; and family engagement. Grandview offers summer camps for children and youth 4–12 years of age with physical, communication and developmental needs living in Durham Region. Please note that CAMP will be held in our Ajax location at 1461 Harwood Avenue, Ajax ON.

Grandview Kids is now accepting applications for the position of:

Special Needs Counsellor, Summer Camp (Contract Full‑Time) – 9 Positions
  • 37.5 hours per week (1

    FTE)
  • Salary: $19.00 per hour (1st year), $19.25 per hour (2nd year returning), $19.50 per hour (3rd year returning)
  • Contract Duration:
    June 22nd, 2026 – August 28th, 2026
  • Core hours for Summer Camp staff are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday – Friday.

Summary of Duties

Under the general direction of the Program Manager, Inclusive Recreation and supervision of the Head Leader and in their absence, the Special Needs Counsellor implements a wide variety of recreational activities; ensures the safety of program clients; assists in indirect client care through the completion of program plans and other administrative responsibilities as required; provides leadership, direction and support to program volunteers;

maintains communication with all other staff members and community representatives; supports departmental/Centre efforts in Quality management (QM) activities; participates in education, orientation and public relations as required; maintains a safe work environment; performs other related duties, as assigned.

Responsibilities The Special Needs Counsellor implements a wide variety of recreational activities by:
  • Working collaboratively with summer camp staff to plan program activities
  • Implementing approved planned and appropriate activities.
  • Modifying activities to meet needs and abilities of clients.
  • Assisting clients with fine and gross motor movement, snack time, and changing.
  • Evaluating program activities and communicating results to supervisor
  • Consulting with the Program Manager as needed to identify any safety risks related to the site that would impact program participants or staff
  • Adhering to established Centre wide and departmental policies and procedures
  • Utilizing security measures appropriately, including assisting with facility safety checks prior to start of each program
  • Take appropriate action on a day‑to‑day basis with minimal supervision
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Strong minimum one year experience working with children and youth with children and youth with physical, communication and developmental needs
  • Minimum of one year experience working in a camp setting
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification

To meet the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Funding Program eligibility, which supports this role, applicants must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, and legally entitled to work in Canada.
