The Role
Processes a designated range of tests and carries out technical procedures on patient samples using a range of scientific measurements and complex equipment.
Trained to operate and maintain complex equipment.
Participates in training of less experienced personnel.
Pathology based posts will receive, store and discharge deceased patients in the mortuary.

Whatwe’ll need you to bring
- Experienced to a minimum level of HND in Biomedical Sciences, a science degree would be desirable or a minimum of two years experience as a Healthcare Science Support Worker (Higher grade) with evidence of training and applied knowledge of a wide variety of laboratory procedures with commitment to further educational development to HND level.
- Attendance at courses, training on new instrumentation.
- I.T. skills.
A driving licence is required, this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
It would be great if you also have- Working towards a level 4 science qualification (BSc, HND, Foundation degree or equivalent) or laboratory experience plus a recognised qualification acceptable for entrance for a degree or HND
- Previous Biomedical laboratory/NHS experience or equivalent
- Demonstrable experience as a healthcare Science Support Worker (Higher Grade).
- Experience of working in a Microbiology laboratory
- Knowledge of I.T. Healthcare systems
- Precise & Accurate work
- Good attention to detail
- Good manual dexterity
- Good communication skills – written and oral
- Able to read and follow written scientific methodologies or protocols
- Able to take messages
- Organised and methodical
- Ability to work independently and prioritise workload.
Fixed Term (12 Months)
Full time
37 Hours
Please note this is a 12 months fixed term post. Where a post only has temporary funding and an existing member of NHS Lanarkshire staff wishes to apply, this will be treated as a secondment. The employee MUST already have written agreement from their line manager to be released on a secondment before applying for the post.
Location and Working PatternThis role will be based in Biochemistry within University Hospital Monklands.
The working pattern for this role is day shifts, with weekends required as well.
