The Opportunity

Under the general direction of the Lead Operator, this Senior Operator position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Wolf Recovery Facility (WRF
2) and associated pipelines. For the initial term, this position will be based out of the WRF 1 facility to allow direct training and gain a thorough understanding of the facility while construction progresses at the WRF 2 site.

This position must regard safety as a priority while focusing on operating efficiencies, budgets, worker competency, governmental and industry regulation compliance while contributing to the Wolf work team.

This is a full‑time camp‑based position at WRF 2, working 7 days on / 7 days off, alternating between days and nights. Transportation to site is provided from major airports in Western Canada or via pool vehicles from select locations to the Fort McMurray area. WRF 1&2 are located within 100 km’s from Fort McMurray.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for commissioning, startup and ongoing operation of the new WRF2 facility
  • Shift Operator, as defined by Recovery Superintendent
  • Complete knowledge and understanding of the plant process and sub‑systems
  • Ability to identify and respond quickly to process upsets while maintaining operations best practices, safety of facility and to minimize plant downtime
  • Responsible for reporting any health, safety, security, or environmental concerns through HSE management system incident reporting
  • Capable of operating all HMI systems efficiently. Troubleshoot and communicate process deviations and upsets
  • Ability to properly identify, report and communicate plant equipment and safety deviations through Work Orders, Hazard ’s and Operations Log
  • Participate in procedure review/development, safety bypass, lock‑out and tag‑out and the operations training program
  • Have a thorough understanding of the plant Emergency Response Plan and be competent in the role of Incident Commander in absence of the Lead Operator or Superintendent
  • Must understand plant economics with regards to NGL recoveries and facility power consumption
  • Responsible for ensuring operations staff complete assigned tasks;
    Work Orders, Safety Checklists, Job Hazard Assessments, Critical Job Checklists and issuing of Safe Work Authorizations for tasks performed in the plant
  • Assist and participate in EHS meetings, inspections and all other EHS requirements
  • Ensures contractor work is performed as per Wolf, EHS and Site‑Specific Practices
  • Consider all aspects of tasks and ensure safety and due diligence before issuing authorizations
  • Responsible for making sure all equipment is safe to work on before work commences by confirming lock‑out and tag‑out is complete, and zero energy isolation is achieved
  • Remain competent in inside and outside operations through yearly review of operations procedures, operations training program
  • Provide mentorship and on the job training to operations staff to allow increased knowledge and advancement as outlined in the operations training program
