Description
Propak Systems Ltd., an established leader in engineering, fabrication and construction of gas compression and processing facilities for the energy industry, is seeking an Automation Specialist to join our Electrical Engineering Department at our Airdrie office.
The Automation Specialist must complete advanced, complex, and confidential tasks requiring strong understanding of basic engineering principles. Control System Specialists are expected to have a fundamental understanding of the industrial process(s) used on your projects and describe this to other automation team members. They are responsible for delivering on your assigned tasks, without sacrificing safety and quality according to schedule commitments.
They must maintain communication with your team lead / project manager, update progress tracking tools and generate scope change documentation. Work cooperatively, sharing best practices, with other technical leaders to develop the programming practices and graphics standards for the department. Where possible identify training opportunities that will assist you in your development.
Key Responsibilities
Programs and configure PLCs, HMIs, RTU, and DCS/SCADA for the oil and gas industry
Assist with developing/maintaining automation programming standards/templates
Commissions controls systems in North America and internationally
Tests, calibrates, and troubleshoots electrical equipment and instrumentation
Reviews/Modifies electrical schematics, P&IDs, Cause Effects and Critical Settings documents
Ensures each project meets contract scope of supply and design specifications
Conduct Factory Approval Tests FAT/SAT/HAT/CAT on control systems and oil and gas equipment (Loop/HMI/Logic checks)
Independently analyzes complex problems by communicating with leaders, employees and customers. Works with engineers to create/review/modify control philosophies/narratives for oil and gas equipment
Assists with system architecture design. Provides ongoing technical support to client
Travels, domestically and internationally, to assist in the commissioning and start-up
of oil and gas equipment (10-30% travel requirement).
Qualifications
A graduate of a recognized diploma in Electrical/Instrumentation/Mechanical Engineering Technology
ASET membership is an asset
2+ years’ experience in control systems in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry
The following experience is required:
Programming/Configuring PLC/DCS/HMI control systems Programming Allen Bradley Factory Talk ME/SE and RS Logix 5000/500 Reviewing/modifying P&’s, Cause and Effect and Critical Settings documentation Reviewing and modifying electrical schematics On-site commissioning and start-ups
Required domestic and international travel. A valid drivers license is required and either the ability to obtain or currently have a valid passport.
Previous refinery or gas plant operations and fabrication environment experience is an asset
Experience with an EPCM company is an asset.
Delta V programming experience is an assest.
Design, installation, and operation of gas processing equipment including natural gas compression, refrigeration, turbo-expander, or amine treating plants is an asset
