Overview
Engineering Tech at Emerson Discrete Automation in Aiken, SC. Supports manufacturing operations through engineering, quality, and lean initiatives across assembly, machining, stockroom, and shipping areas.
Responsibilities- Execute special projects assigned by Engineering, Quality, or OpEx leadership.
- Analyze production data, scrap issues, test logs, and productivity metrics; recommend corrective actions and improvement ideas.
- Develop and maintain assembly procedures, operational sheets, and work instructions.
- Perform basic mechanical repairs and preventive maintenance as directed.
- Support lean initiatives, including Kaizen events, 5S, and waste reduction projects.
- Initiate and create production procedures, including SOPs.
- Evaluate parts/components using quality control methods and equipment.
- Compile and print dispatch reports; determine bill of materials for assembly analysis.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
- Obey all safety rules and stop work if continuing is unsafe or will create an unsafe condition. Report all safety concerns immediately.
- Train and assist team members on manufacturing processes and lean practices.
- Perform other tasks assigned by supervisor.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering; alternatively, an Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering with 2+ years' experience, or 5+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
- Knowledge of basic electricity, hydraulics, pneumatics.
- Advanced blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to set up and operation a variety of assembly and test equipment within the prescribed procedures and standards.
- Ability to teach and train others as needed.
- Familiarity with lean tools and techniques (e.g., 5S, value stream mapping).
- Developing procedures and work instructions.
- Team-oriented mindset with problem-solving skills.
- Stand, walk, stoop, bend, twist and/or lift up to 40 pounds throughout an entire shift. May be required to work more than 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a week based on production needs.
- Exposed to manufacturing plant conditions and elements including noise, dust, dirt, oil, and grease.
- PPE required including safety glasses, ear plugs, hand protection and/or safety shoes.
- May be required to work at different workstations as determined by business needs.
