Responsibilities

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist performs health care services utilizing radiopharmaceuticals to assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease states, collaborates with radiologists and follows device quality control procedures.

  • Prepares room, equipment, radiopharmaceuticals and materials as needed for procedures.
  • Maintains clean and stocked procedure room on a daily basis.
  • Properly calibrates equipment daily and ensures equipment is working properly.
  • Prepares patient for procedure – explains procedure, transfers patient to examination table, positions patient correctly and assists patient at end of procedure.
  • Sends images to PACS appropriately and verifies all are available for interpretation in a timely manner.
  • Performs general clerical, file room, darkroom and transportation duties when needed to fulfill the workload of the department.
  • Practices patient care according to ARMC policy.
  • Assists radiologists during procedures and takes films as requested.
  • Knowledgeable in proper sequence of scheduling exams for the entire radiology department.
  • Considers age‑related factors in obtaining images or performing diagnostic or therapeutic imaging studies; applies knowledge appropriately to patients ranging from pediatrics to geriatrics.
  • Accepts additional work during periods of low patient activity and demonstrates willingness to assist others within the department as requested.
  • Implements radiation safety procedures when working with radiation‑producing equipment 100% of the time.
  • Maintains measurements described in the Universal Protocol policy.
  • Ensures patient charges are entered into the EHR in a timely manner and that charges are accurate.
  • Administers radiopharmaceuticals to patient as directed by radiologist and adjusts dose for patient age and weight as appropriate.
  • Obtains and correctly documents verbal and telephone orders per facility policy (only applies to ARRT licensed staff).
  • Rotates to other imaging departments as needed; participates in holiday and on‑call rotation requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Associate degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology from a CAAHEP approved school.
  • Experience: One‑year experience preferred.
  • License or Registration: Current ARRT(N) or NMTCB and current South Carolina license issued by SC Radiation Quality Standards Association.
