Short Summary about JobHukari Ascendent is seeking a Principal Engineer – Fire Protection Design Engineer specializing in Alarm & Detection Systems to provide design engineering support to a DOE site. The selected candidate will perform engineering task analysis, walk-downs, design development, and generation of design output documents in accordance with national consensus codes and standards.
Required Qualifications- Education:
Ph.D. in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years’ experience; OR MS with 8+ years’ experience; OR BS with 10+ years’ experience or more. - Graduate of an ABET accredited Fire Protection Engineering program; OR BS in an engineering discipline with one of the following:
Registered Professional Engineer in Fire Protection; SFPE NICET Level III/IV certification in Fire Alarm, Detection and Signaling; or Professional/Fellow Member in the SFPE. - Minimum ten (10) years of recent design experience, four (4) of which shall be in Fire Alarm, Detection and Signaling Design – including general knowledge of electrical/control systems, connection diagrams, layout plans, logic diagrams, panel layout details, P&’s, and battery loading calculations.
- Working knowledge of NFPA Codes and Standards and National Consensus Codes such as NFPA 13, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 90A, NFPA 101, IBC, and various ISA and IEEE standards.
- Experience with 2D Micro Station Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD).
- Ability to operate Windows Microsoft Office Applications.
- Ability to perform weekly field walk-downs of the job site, including construction sites with uneven surfaces, walking distances over half a mile, climbing ladders, and working in environments requiring protective clothing or respirators.
- Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
- Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years.
- Previous DOE facility experience.
- Proficiency in using Micro Station 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software
