Responsibilities- Define the scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to complex challenges while meeting company and industry requirements.
- Apply technical expertise across multiple fields to resolve complex problems.
- Incorporate advanced technical practices and complex features (e.g., new materials or processes) into problem solving and program planning.
- Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as an expert in one or more functional technical areas.
- Provide direction and responsibility across department lines on programs seeking new approaches and new applications of engineering or scientific principles.
- Evaluate program results and prepare reports and recommendations.
- Identify and recommend improvements when existing technologies or methodologies are inadequate.
- Keep informed of technological advancements in the area of expertise.
- Prepare plans, including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for technical tasks.
- Develop schedules, monitor progress, track budget expenditures, and review the quality of work performed.
- Communicate results and objectives verbally and in written form to customers, colleagues and management.
- Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
- Enhance expertise through leadership in local technical societies.
- Demonstrate creative ability through patent disclosures, problem‑solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.
- Ph.D. degree in an applicable science or engineering discipline with 5+ years’ experience.
- MS degree with 8+ years’ experience.
- BS degree with 10+ years’ experience or more.
- Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS, including engineering task analysis, walk‑downs, design development, and generation of design output documents such as location plans, connection diagrams, conduit/block diagrams, logic diagrams, panel detail drawings, P&I diagrams, and battery loading calculations in accordance with national consensus codes and standards.
- Offer technical support to site construction forces, startup & testing, suppliers or subcontract personnel, and prepare data sheets, statements of work, procurement specifications, design‑build specifications, and purchase requisitions.
- Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures; programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.
- Minimum ten (10) years of recent design experience, with at least four (4) years in the following area of expertise:
Fire Alarm, Detection and Signaling Design. - General knowledge of electrical/control systems, connection diagrams, layout plans, logic diagrams, panel layout details, P &I diagrams, and battery loading calculations.
- Working knowledge of NFPA codes and standards, and national consensus codes such as NFPA 13, NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 90A, NFPA 101, IBC, and various ISA and IEEE standards.
- Experience with 2D Micro Station Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD).
- Ability to operate Windows Microsoft Office applications.
- Previous SRNS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience.
- Proficiency in Micro Station 2D CADD software.
- Familiarity with the processes and procedures for providing engineering support to SRNS facilities.
- Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years.
- Ability to perform weekly field walk‑downs of job sites, including construction sites with uneven surfaces, walking distances of over half a mile, ladder climbing, and protective equipment as required.
- Travel must be approved by procurement via a fully funded requisition added to the Task Order Authorization. Justifications, travel locations, estimated costs, and dates must be provided prior to procurement approval. Travel to conferences or trainings is not reimbursed.
- All rates are fully burdened and must include all costs outside of direct business travel.
Work is performed in an office environment requiring the use of standard office equipment and keyboards. Light to moderate lifting may be required for packages and other items; walking short distances and standing, sitting, talking, hearing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and using hands and fingers to operate a computer, telephone, and keyboard are regular requirements.
