Position: Field Engineer / Technician - CADD Experience Required | Savannah River Site, SC

Position Title: Field Technician/Engineer Department: Construction Reports To: Project Manager / Quality Control Manager Location: Varies (Initial project assignment: Building 226-F)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Pay Rate or Salary: DOE Work Schedule: 40 hours per week and regular overtime as required to maintain operations

Summary

The Field Technician/Engineer supports the execution of construction and demolition-related field activities through direct involvement in technical operations, inspections, documentation, and coordination with project supervision and quality control staff. This role is critical in supporting both quality and compliance with applicable specifications, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with field layout, verification of removals, and documentation of remnant locations and removal activities.
  • Support the QCM in implementing the work packages required for project execution.
  • Monitor and document field activities to ensure compliance with project specifications and applicable standards.
  • Coordinate with subcontractors and craft labor to ensure safe removal techniques are used that avoid compromising SC/SS steel elements.
  • Provide field measurements, sketches, or redlines to support "as-built" documentation.
  • Support preparatory, initial, and follow-up inspections with the QCM.
  • Observe and report any damage to SC/SS steel, ensuring immediate notification and documentation for repair assessment.
  • Assist in maintaining project documentation, including photos, field reports, and daily logs.
  • Ensure that materials and tools used for remnant removal are in proper condition and utilized according to work package requirements.
  • Follow all OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and company safety procedures while working in active field conditions.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, safety meetings, and quality briefings.
  • Perform additional field or technical duties as assigned to support project needs.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Associate degree in engineering, construction technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 0-2 years of experience in field engineering, construction support, or technical field operations.
  • Proficiency in Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) software is required.
  • Experience on federal or Department of Energy (DOE) projects is preferred.
  • Familiarity with structural steel work, demolition, and removal activities.
  • Basic understanding of NQA-1 requirements or willingness to train.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification (or ability to obtain prior to assignment).
  • Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications (or ability to obtain).
  • Must be eligible to obtain DoD or DOE security clearance.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and basic document control platforms.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong attention to detail in technical environments involving structural steel and safety-critical components.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and field documents.
  • Familiarity with base metal repair tolerances and measurement tools.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Comfortable working in construction and demolition environments.
  • Adaptability to shift priorities and work scopes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Willingness to work in various field conditions and travel as required.
