UDR is seeking qualified candidates for a Principal Engineer
- Fire Protection Design Engineer
- Alarm and Detection Systems opportunity for our customer in Aiken, SC to support the Savannah River Site
.
- Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems. Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely and cost-effective results. Provide quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.
- Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields to resolve complex problems.
- Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
- Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
- Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles.
- Evaluate the results of programs and prepare reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.
- Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
- Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology.
- Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
- Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.
- Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues and management.
- Occasionally prepare reports for external publication.
- Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies.
- Demonstrate creative ability through patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles.
- Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS. Primary responsibilities include engineering task analysis, walk-downs, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to:
Location Plans, Connection Diagrams, Conduit / Block Diagrams, Logic Diagrams, Panel Detail Drawings, Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams, and Battery Loading Calculations in accordance with national consensus codes and standards. Provide technical support to site construction forces, start-up & testing, suppliers or subcontract personnel. Prepare Data Sheets, Statements of Work, Procurement Specifications, Design Build Specifications, and Purchase Requisition s. - Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.
- Educational requirements include:
Graduate of an ABET accredited Fire Protection Engineering program; or BS degree in an engineering discipline with at least one of the following:
Registered Professional Engineer in Fire Protection, or SFPE NICET Level III/IV certification in the Fire Alarm, Detection and Signaling area of expertise. - Recent qualifications include: ten (10) years of design experience, with at least four (4) years in Fire Alarm, Detection and Signaling Design; general knowledge of electrical/control systems, connection diagrams, layout plans, logic diagrams, panel layout details, P&IDs, and battery loading calculations; working knowledge of NFPA Codes and Standards (NFPA 13, 70, 72, 90A, 101, IBC) and related ISA/IEEE standards; experience with 2D Micro Station CAD;
ability to operate Windows Office. - Preferred qualifications include: previous SRS Design Engineering or DOE facility experience; proficiency in Micro Station 2D CAD; familiarity with SRS processes and procedures for engineering support to SRS facilities.
