Responsibilities
  • Perform fire protection engineering work in operations, production, construction, or maintenance environments.
  • Design and scale up processes, instruments, and equipment; plan, design, and estimate time and cost for projects; oversee construction and maintenance of facilities and systems.
  • Develop and apply engineering standards and procedures; provide advice within the engineering field.
  • Conduct Fire Hazard Analysis and Fire Scenario Documentation for nuclear and non-nuclear facilities; ensure compliance with codes and standards (DOE, ICC, NFPA, etc.).
  • Review and approve documents for new construction or modification to determine appropriate fire prevention measures.
  • Specify and monitor inspection, testing, and maintenance of fire protection systems and equipment.
  • Mentor and provide direction to less senior engineers; scope technical tasks and develop creative solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams; manage tasks with minimal supervision; develop cost and schedule estimates for proposed projects.
  • Prepare manuals and technical documents; demonstrate creative problem solving and engineering judgment.
Senior Fire Protection Engineer competencies
  • Build and maintain relationships across operations, maintenance, construction, safety, and other functions.
  • Lead cross-functional teams and drive tasks to completion; manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Communicate complex topics to diverse audiences; originate and edit technical documents; provide guidance to less senior engineers.
Required Qualifications
  • P3:
    Bachelor s degree in engineering or relevant field plus at least five years of experience, OR Master s degree with at least two years, OR Doctoral degree. Equivalencies may be considered with qualification as a Fire Protection Engineer (QFPE 1 or
    2).
  • P4:
    Bachelor s degree plus at least ten years of experience, OR Master s degree with at least eight years, OR Doctoral with at least five years. Equivalencies may be considered with QFPE 1 or 2.
  • P5:
    Bachelor s degree plus at least fifteen years of experience, OR Master s with at least twelve years, OR Doctoral with at least eight years. Equivalencies may be considered with QFPE 1 or 2.
