Linguistics Analyst​/Foreign Language Expert

Advanced Resource Technologies Inc (ARTI) is currently recruiting for a Linguistics Analyst/Foreign Language Expert in support of a contract with the Army Research Lab at our Adelphi, MD location. Position is full-time (32-40) hours a week.

SUMMARY

You will work under moderate supervision in performing program statement of work. You will possess advanced skills in a particular area or subject matter expertise. Conducts duties and responsibilities IAW agencies and department's policy and applicable security regulations. Possesses analytical and specialized technical skills which will enable you to perform all aspects of the job in a timely, responsive manner. You will exercise independent judgment, as well as an advanced level of problem-solving ability within the scope of work.

You will work closely with Program Manager and other technical staff and will engage in frequent contact with related governmental offices/departments.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Duties and responsibilities as a Linguistics Analyst include but are not limited to:

* Provide Quality Assurance and Control for a variety of translations, shall conduct research, and write a report on the results of, accuracy evaluations of commercial, government-owned, and experimental foreign language to English MT components and systems using standard accuracy evaluation metrics.

* Conduct analysis and provide written Accuracy Evaluation Reports.

* Follow ethical codes that protect the confidentiality of information.

* Identify and resolve conflicts related to the meanings of words, concepts, practices, or behaviors.

* Produce the training data with which novel speech synthesis software will be produced for one or more foreign languages.

* Produce approximately 7,000 high quality short recordings for use in training speech synthesis software.

* Edit available public domain text to produce transcripts for the recordings.

* Mark up machine translation results for English
-Cantonese(bidirectional) for use in spiral development.

Requirements

* Undergraduate Degree required and three years' experience with open-source software and machine translation.

* At least 3 years' experience as Formal Educated Linguistics working in the foreign language.

* Required Languages are Cantonese
- Native Fluency in these languages desired

* Defense Language Proficiency Testing (DLPT) Certification desired.

* Must be a U.S. Citizen.

* Must have good research, collaboration, and coordination skills and the ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and be eager to learn and use new tools and methods.

* A solid command of the English language grammar is a must.

* Experience in computer-based machine translation and speech recognition technology.

* Must have strong organizational, specialized, oral and written communication, and attention to detail skills.

* Ability to effectively interact with personnel at all levels in a dynamic work environment is required.

* Industry certification may be required.
