The Senior Manager of Payroll Systems is a strategic and technical leader responsible for optimizing, governing, and supporting payroll technology systems, with a strong emphasis on UKG Pro Workforce Management, Oracle (payroll and payroll tax configurations), iCIMs, and organizational hierarchy design. This role will collaborate with HR, IT, and Finance to ensure payroll and payroll tax accuracy, compliance, and system integrity for a large, multistate organization that oversees payroll for approximately 14,000 employees.

The position will report to the Director of Payroll Services, and will lead a team at the corporate office, including in-office and remote workforce. The Senior Manager of Payroll Systems will bring a demonstrated history of managing systems to deliver support and solutions to the business.

Responsibilities Payroll Systems Leadership & Strategy
  • Serve as the payroll system owner including end-to-end testing and production for UKG Pro Workforce Management, Oracle, and organizational hierarchy.
  • Develop long-term roadmaps in collaboration with IT for payroll system enhancements, automations, integrations, and technology improvements.
  • Lead system governance, ensuring consistent configuration standards, best practices, and documentation.
  • Oversee integrations between UKG and downstream systems (GL, benefits, vendor files, etc.).
Payroll Tax Configuration & Compliance
  • Partner with Payroll Tax team to oversee multi-state payroll tax setups including SUI, SUTA, local tax jurisdictions, reciprocity rules, supplemental wage tax logic, and withholding rules.
  • Assist Payroll Tax team to ensure quarterly/annual tax reviews, year-end processing, audits, and reconciliation needs are accomplished.
UKG Pro Workforce Management Configuration, Optimization & Support
  • Partner with IT to lead the configuration of pay rules, deduction codes, earnings codes, work groups, tax profiles, and job/pay structures that are maintained.
  • Oversee and support integration with UKG to Oracle payroll/tax system.
Organizational Structure & Hierarchy Management
  • Manage and maintain organizational hierarchy across company structure, business units, cost centers, locations, supervisors, and labor distribution, through daily reconciliation reports, Service Now tickets, and email requests.
  • Ensure alignment between HR, Finance, and Payroll structures including supporting reorganizations and acquisitions.
Operational Excellence, Testing & Support
  • Provide leadership and direction for the Payroll Systems Team, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
  • Partnership with payroll leadership to maintain system testing and training for Payroll/Tax Services team members.
  • Support iCIMS recruitment and onboarding by managing user access, creating locations, completing daily system audits, resolving issues through Service Now, and coordinating with iCIMS support, HRIS, and third-party vendors.
  • Partner to support acquisitions and new openings, including company analysis, iCIMS new hire file loads, offer letter initiations as needed, and collaboration with Legal to ensure accurate GRE placement.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for all payroll systems, implementing automated audits and controls to ensure payroll/payroll tax accuracy and compliance. Support miscellaneous programs related to payroll/payroll tax, such as the Alumni Portal, API Wizard, KBACE.
  • Perform Oracle quarterly and annual payroll/payroll tax testing, additional system testing as needed, and monthly Vertex update testing to ensure system accuracy and compliance.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent education and experience.
