Responsibilities
Responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating the nursing care provided to a select group of patients for wound and ostomy care within the organization’s nursing services. Wound care nurses specialize in the proper management of wounds, treating and monitoring those that result from disease, injury, or medical treatments. The role requires providing care that will optimally and safely heal various types of wounds—including surgical openings, ulcers, decubitus ulcers, feeding tube sites, and abscesses—by accessing wounds, creating and implementing treatment plans, monitoring infections and signs of infection, and cleaning wounds.
Nurses must possess advanced skills to assess symptoms requiring management of complex wounds and will also educate other healthcare members about proper wound care.
- Education
:
Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate’s Degree, Diploma, or BSN). - Licensure
:
Personally responsible for obtaining and maintaining a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure, meeting all state board of nursing requirements. - Physical requirements/demands
:- Push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Prolonged standing and walking each shift.
- Grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.
- Certifications
: WCC/WOCN certification.
